Alexa Rank

Alexa Rank is a ranking tool that ranks websites based on their popularity.

It takes into account average daily unique visitors and pageviews in the last three months. It is important to note that the most popular websites rank as number 1 and the least popular the site is, the higher is the number.

The data is gathered from the Internet users that have one of over 25000 browser extensions installed. However, it means that not all users are considered and may potentially lead to not full or biased ranking. Alexa Rank tackled this issue as well: its algorithms calculate the potential bias and give more accurate rankings. It also uses third-party data.

Still, Alexa Rank is not as accurate as Google. Why do marketing professionals use it then?

It helps them to understand their position on the market compared to their competitors. They can see how much higher or lower competitor’s websites rank, audience overlaps, and keywords. Alexa Rank has a pretty good keyword tool: it shows what successful keywords your competitors use and you do not, suggests popular keywords in your niche and keywords with high buyer intent, and gives advice on optimization.
