Tracking Code

A tracking code is a unique fragment of code that is automatically generated for each webpage. Generally, it is information included in URLs that are used to track the activity of users, namely their actions after clicking on a particular advertisement. Tracking codes of marketing campaigns are most often filled via a query line parameter attached to a URL. Tracking codes make it easier to measure the performance indicators accumulated by different metadata and to analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of marketing campaigns.

The process of generating and further inserting a tracking code into the source code of a webpage is usually carried out with JavaScript code. There are a variety of functions that can be performed by a tracking code, such as providing the control of clicks through ads, gauging advertisement campaign performance, tracking the conversions, taking hold of the user’s attention using heat-maps, and even more.

Apart from using tracking codes for particular websites, they can be also employed on social media platforms in order to control website traffic and systematize its analytics.
